1989 Larry Bird Signed Amendment to Uniform Player's Contract. Most significant here is a six-page "Agreement Amendment" dated "this 20th day of December, 1988," extending the 1983 contract securing the rights to this iconic forward for an additional season (1991-92). Various covenants regarding a signing bonus and a $900,000 loan made to the 1978 first-round draft pick, with Bird signaling his consent to the terms with his initials on each of the first five pages along with Celtics vice president Jan Volk. Each then signs in full on page six. Eight typed pages follow, the content regarding the loan, though none of them are initialed or signed. Also here is Volk's signed cover letter when forwarding the document to Bird's agent Bob Woolf.

In a city that has been blessed with many of the most iconic figures in sports history from Ted Williams to Bobby Orr, perhaps only Bill Russell can match Bird for hardcourt significance. This paperwork that ensured that Larry Bird would retire as a Boston Celtic ranks among the most significant documents we've had the good fortune to offer. Daniel Stern appears in stamped format.
