Description

1986-87 Michael Jordan Game Worn & Signed Air Jordan II Sneakers. After suffering a potential career-ending injury at the start of the 1985-86 season, Michael Jordan did something that probably no other world class athlete has ever done. He came back better than before he was injured.

In 1986-87, Jordan soared to the peak of his athletic prime and ability to put points on the board, becoming only the second player, after Wilt chamberlain, to score over 3,000 points and average over thirty-seven points per game in a season.

Presented here are his kicks from that fiery campaign. This second version of the legendary Air Jordan sneaker brand were designed by Bruce Kilgore. They were made in Italy, and feature real Italian leather on the uppers. The Air Jordan "Wings" logo features prominently on the tongues. There are no size indicators inside the sneakers, which matches other known exemplars and is a common omission for player samples of the era. Furthermore, the sneakers measure out to a size thirteen/thirteen and a half, the correct sizing for Michael in this period.

The sneakers exhibit signs of wear, including creasing to the white leather toeboxes. Also, it should noted that the insoles were removed, to accommodate Mike's custom orthotics, and the lining underneath has split down the center over time but is still present. Furthermore, the ankle collar of each shoe is inscribed and signed "Best Wishes Michael Jordan" in faded (but still legible) vintage marker.

As is quite typical of many Air Jordan II's of this era, the polyurethane composite which comprised the heel grill, midsoles and Nike panel on the outersoles, degraded substantially over time, thanks to hydrolysis and oxidation, and were professionally restored by one of the country's leading sneaker restoration experts. Meanwhile, the uppers and rest of the outersoles remain exactly the same as when Michael wore them. These important early gamers from the greatest player ever are ready to be included in your basketball display. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
