    Description

1985 Larry Bird NBA Finals Game Worn & Signed Sneakers. The rise of the NBA could be pinpointed to when Larry Bird and Magic Johnson entered into the league. Before the duo put their stamp on the game, the NBA was a mere afterthought in the sporting world. The Finals were played on tape delay and plenty of empty seats were noticed across the nation. The marketing of basketball players was nowhere to be found.

Things changed dramatically when The Hick from French Lick and man who inspired Showtime took the hardwood. Magic Johnson and his flashy moves fit right into Los Angeles and its glitzy persona. The hard-working Bird would rather go unnoticed and be left alone. Both superstars met in the 1979 NCAA championship game and record numbers of people tuned in to see Magic claim the title. The 1980's would be dominated by the Lakers and Celtics. Three NBA Finals pitted the Lakers and Celtics while only one championship series (1989-90) would have a team other than the aforementioned in it.

A year after the Celtics won the decisive game in 1984, the two teams were yet again adversaries on the grandest stage. This time Magic and company downed the Celtics in six games. These "Converse size 13.5" black canvas shoes saw action during the June series where the Celtics and Lakers battled each other. According to the MEARS auction letter, Bird switched from green canvas in favor of black for the NBA Finals before adopting a different style in 1986. These shoes show good overall use and match the style worn by Bird during the series. Size flag tags are secured inside and blue shoe inserts are also a part of the offering. The sides are both signed but the autographs are severely faded. Overall, one the most significant pairs of Bird shoes to enter the auction block. Auction LOA from MEARS, Authentic. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
