1984 Michael Jordan Olympics Trials Game Worn & Team Signed Sneakers with Letter from Son of USA Team Doctor. It's hard to imagine anything other than Nikes adorning the feet of the sport's greatest figure, but back in his college days His Airness was a Converse man like most top stars of the hardcourt. And by the time the year Jordan wore the presented sneakers was over, the Air Jordan I was already in production, forever changing sports marketing history.

The scant few Jordan sneakers predating his Nike covenant are enormously prized by top collectors today, and this pair ranks among the finest of that tiny supply. As the story is so ably recounted in the included letter of provenance, we'll print it here verbatim:

"My name is ________ and I am a lifelong resident of Bloomington, Indiana. My father is Dr. ________ who served for over two decades as the team physician for the Indiana University Men's Basketball team under Head Coach Bobby Knight. My father and Coach Knight have been close friends for over 40 years and remain so to this day.

In April of 1984 the U.S. Olympic Trials were held in Bloomington, Indiana since Coach Knight was selected to coach the team. Once the team, made up of the best college players, was selected, they played a series of exhibition games versus NBA All-Stars to prepare for the competition they would face at the Olympic Games. Team USA beat the NBA All-Stars eight games in a row. My father, ______, served as the team physician for all of the exhibition games for Team USA.

Their final exhibition game was in San Diego, California on July 25, 1984. Our family traveled to San Diego for a vacation surrounding the game before our school year started back home. My parents, younger brother Eric and I stayed at the hotel where Team USA was staying. I was 16 years old at the time, about to start my freshman year of high school. I spent a lot of time hanging out with Coach Knight's son Patrick, as we were good friends and close in age. Back at home, we'd run around Assembly Hall and hang out during practices. So being in San Diego was no different.

We interacted with the players during the day at the hotel. I remember being in the pool playing a game of "chicken" with me versus Pat on the shoulders of some of the players. One afternoon I was in the hotel elevator with several players including Michael Jordan as they were heading to get on the bus to go to practice. Jordan was holding his shoes and ended up giving them to me. Pat was getting on the team bus to head to practice so he took the shoes with him and asked the team to autograph them for me. Pat returned the shoes to me and I have had them ever since."

The size "13" sneakers exhibit solid wear from the twenty-one year old legend on the rise but none of the rubber degradation often found on vintage sneakers. Jordan's red ink signature appears both shoes, and each rates among the strongest of the bunch at about 7/10. Other signers include fellow future Hall of Famer and two-time Gold Medalist Chris Mullin, Vern Fleming, Alvin Robertson and Wayman Tisdale. Letter of provenance from son of team doctor. Full LOA from PSA/DNA for each shoe. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
