1980's Joe Dumars Game Worn Shoes. James Shorters Pistons Ball Boy Collection

Ball boys are one of the few outsiders allowed in basketball's most inner sanctum. James Shorter served as a ball boy and helped in the capacity of visiting locker room attendant for the Detroit Pistons from 1988-93. He enjoyed a bird's eye view of the Bad Boy teams which won back-to-back NBA titles. The likes of Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Scottie Pippen, Joe Dumars and Michael Cooper were just some of the men who the youngster called friend during his association with the organization. Heritage Auctions has the honor of offering some of Shorter's personal treasures, given to him by NBA stars of the 1980's.

While the Detroit Pistons were labeled as the NBA's Bad Boys during their title runs, the real hero was an unassuming defender considered one of the only men on this planet able to contain Michael Jordan.

Dumars had to guard the opposition's best when he wore these Adidas shoes. Most NBA shoes show a game's worth of use and are discarded, but these kicks exhibit a week's worth of roundball battles. We must report the back cushioning on both have chipped noticeably and are tearing away. The plastic side material has also been lost to time. Obtained from an ex-Pistons ball boy. These pay tribute to a Hall of Fame player turned championship executive. Letter of provenance from former Pistons ball boy. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
