    Description

1974 Carolina Classic Basketball Tournament Gruen Watch From Estate of Charles Comiskey II. Among the personal effects found in Charles Comiskey II's belongings were a very small amount of non-baseball related items. In this case, the lot up for consideration is a Gruen Swiss watch with "1974 Carolina Classic" on the face and a basketball at the 12 o'clock position. This was likely a high school or college basketball tournament in either North or South Carolina. Watch appears to work when wound and includes day and date. Some very light scuffs and a tiny ring of tarnishing around the inside of the bezel, but the watch was likely never used judging from the Mint and unbent nature of the calfskin strap.

    The Comiskey Collection

It's a name that remains synonymous with Chicago White Sox baseball, and one properly immortalized in Cooperstown bronze. The collection that appears in the lots that follow spans six decades of the team's history, beginning with what may be the earliest ChiSox document in private hands, and continuing on to feature a wide assortment of material from sons J. Louis and Charles A. Comiskey II, who carried on the ownership of the club following their father's passing. Many of the key moments in team history are memorialized, from the team's first World Series appearance in 1906, to the famous World Tour of 1913-14, to the club's eventual sale to another Hall of Fame executive, Bill Veeck, in 1959. All items were stored for decades in the attic of Charles Junior's home before they were acquired by our consignor, and they make their auction debut here.
