1973-74 Swen Nater The Sporting News ABA Rookie of the Year Award. Swen Nater won two NCAA titles at UCLA as Bill Walton's understudy. Out from under the shadow of the big redhead, the rugged Dutchman was finally able to spread his wings in the pro ranks, first in the ABA and then the NBA.

He was the ABA's Rookie of the Year and a two-time ABA All-Star. Known as a well-rounded center, the 6-11 250-pound Nater had a specific affinity for rebounding and is the only player to lead both the ABA and NBA in that category. He is also the only player drafted in the first round by either league who never started a collegiate game.

On offer here is Swen's 1973-74 ABA Rookie of the Year award. The Bulova Accutron timepiece is engraved on the reverse "The Sporting News, Swen Nater, ABA Rookie Of The Year, 1973-74" and "18k Heavy Gold Electroplate Bezel, 10 KT Rolled Gold Plate Back." As far as we know, this is the first such ABA award to make it to the auction block. Letter of provenance from Swen Nater.
