1962 John Havlicek Signed NBA Rookie Year Player Contract. Between 1963 and 1976, the Boston Celtics won eight of their record-setting seventeen NBA Championships, due in large part to the play of small forward/shooting guard John Havlicek. The greatest franchise in basketball, based solely on championships at least, the Boston Celtics thrived with Bill Russell, Havlicek, and others. "Hondo" averaged over 20 PPG, 6.3 RPG and 4.8 APG over his career and played in thirteen All-Star games.

Up for auction in this lot is a historic rookie season "National Basketball Association Uniform Player Contract" from August, 1962. This first year deal gave Havlicek $15,000 for the 1962-63 season as well as $7 per day for meals on the road. Signed by "Hondo" in bold 10/10 ink at the bottom of page two, Celtics President Walter Brown has also penned his name to the contract in 10/10 quality. Measures 8.5x14" and is in VG condition with three mailing folds and a scattering of non-invasive creases and wrinkles, as well as staple holes at top left and a 0.25" tear in one edge.

Original contracts pop up quite often for major sports, but the contracts of superstars rarely surface as they tend to remain with the player's family. Especially finding one from the rookie season of a Hall of Famer is a one in a million chance. Do not miss this opportunity to bid on this historic document. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
