Description

1959 Dick Harp Big 8 Coach of the Year Award. Because of the rules established by the University of Kansas, Phog Allen was forced into retirement when he turned 70 years of age. Wilt Chamberlain's dream of playing for the legendary coach would never come to fruition. Taking the place of Allen was one his former players and coaching assistants, Dick Harp. During his tenure as the top man, Harp had the luxury of having Chamberlain as his go-to guy. From the 1959 season is this Big 8 Conference Coach of the Year award. "Unity for Service National Exchange Club" is embossed around an emblem on front while a gold placard reads "1959 Coach of the Year Dick Harp Big 8 Conference." A letter signed by Harp's son is included and serves as authenticity. Letter of provenance from Dick Harp's son, Richard.
