1950 Marques Haynes Globetrotter Most Valuable Player Trophy from the Marques Haynes Collection. This beautiful award is impressive for its design and its significance. It was awarded in 1950 with the following inscription: "Most Valuable Globetrotter Award - 1950 World Series of Basketball - College All-Americans vs. Harlem Globetrotters - won by Marques O. Haynes." 1950 was the inaugural year for the World Series of Basketball and this was the first trophy of its kind awarded. It must be noted that an MVP trophy was awarded to the outstanding player for the College All-Americans who happened to be future Hall of Famer Paul Arizin. The trophy has had some modest restoration and is missing the small players who appeared on the pedestals on each side of the base. The metal has some modest wear; it does show a few nicks and "dings," and some oxidation opposite the viewing side. However, it remains visually stunning, standing over three feet high and two feet across. It has considerable gloss and is absent any serious defects. It weighs close to twenty pounds and Its overall appearance is much more than impressive. It will be a focal point of any collector's display area.
