    Description

1930's James Naismith Typed Manuscript with Handwritten Notes re: Physiology of Basketball. More than fifty pages on the subject of "The Physiology of Basketball" are replete with handwritten edits and notations. The work covers the subject from multiple aspects, including training, wear on tissues, height/weight factors, and endurance. Included is one typed chart measuring "active time" within the overall time for a game played by K.U. in Lawrence against Drake on October 31, 1925. Even more intriguing is a hand drawn and colored chart by Naismith tracking action, relaxation and rest. There are charts comparing the height and weight by position, with one noting that the University of Kansas center was six feet even. Some pages show minor edge wear, but the condition is a strong EX+ average. A fascinating document that illustrates the tremendous intellect and scientific mind of basketball's inventor. This lot was originally sold as part of our December 2006 Signature Auction featuring The James Naismith Collection. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
