1917 James Naismith Handwritten Signed Letter with Signed Envelope. Originally sold as part of "The James Naismith Collection" in our December 2006 Signature Auction, this four-page handwritten letter was sent from the inventor of basketball to his wife from his military base in El Paso, Texas. Naismith discusses various recent events, and laments the lack of correspondence received from his wife, writing, "This is another milestone in our journey and though you are very sparing of your letters only three since I left I will not be so sparing with you...." He closes the letter with "Love your Jim," and provides two more autographs on the included mailing envelope, with a "J. Naismith" as part of the return address, and "Mrs. J. Naismith" for addressee. Letter is NRMT with original mailing folds; envelope VG-EX. All ink is 9/10 or better. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
