1997 Julius Erving & Connie Hawkins Dual-Signed ABA Basketball. 0Julius Erving and Connie Hawkins were both revolutionary basketball players known for their high-flying, acrobatic style that laid the foundation for modern above-the-rim play. Hawkins, who played in the ABA, NBA, and other leagues, was one of the earliest players to popularize flashy dunks, graceful ball-handling, and an improvisational approach to scoring. Erving, who emerged a decade later, built upon Hawkins' style, becoming the face of the ABA with his soaring dunks and smooth athleticism before transitioning to the NBA.
