Description
1980 David Thompson Game Used 10,000 Point Basketball. If it wasn't for David Thompson's battles with substance abuse off the court, unquestionably he would be considered one of the best basketball players in history. Still, the former ABA and NBA superstar did things on the hardwood that could only be compared to fellow basketball legend Dr. J. Offered here is the actual NBA (O'Brien) game ball that Thompson used to score his milestone 10,000th point. Painted red, white and blue and presented to the North Carolina State alum, this nicely used ball is enclosed in a custom showcase, with an engraved gold plaque reading "DAVID THOMPSON 10,000 CAREER POINTS ABA/NBA 12/27/80," which has since become loose (small crack in case). Originally obtained in 1995 through a "Sports Collectors Digest" ad by the notable company "Coast to Coast Sportscards and Authenticated Memorabilia," this piece is accompanied with a copy of that actual ad. Considering Thompson only tallied a little more than 11,000 points during his career, this is basically the most important milestone ball from the spectacular offensive powerhouse.Auction Info
