1996 Topps Chrome Basketball Factory Sealed Box - Kobe Bryant Rookie Year! The 1996-97 Topps Chrome was the most spectacular basketball set of the 1990s. This was the initial Topps Chrome set, and it was essentially a Chrome version of the Topps 1996-97 basic set. Hobby dealers showed little interest in the set, so it was released via retail only. Eventually, the value of this Chrome set became apparent, and it shot up in price. The 1996-97 NBA Draft Class is one of the greatest of all-time. This draft class contained Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Stephon Marbury, Jermaine O'Neal, Derek Fisher, and Marcus Camby. Each of the aforementioned players has a rookie card in the set, and the possibility of obtaining one of these valuable rookie cards keeps intense interest in an unopened box of this set. The key card search for the set certainly involves Kobe Bryant, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in January of 2020 after playing 20 NBA seasons, all with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant's career accomplishments include averaging a lifetime 25.0 PPG, 18 All-Star Game selections, a MVP, two Finals MVPs, and a key role in five NBA championships.
