    Description

1969 Topps Lew Alcindor #25 PSA NM 7. "You can't win unless you learn how to lose," said Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, formerly known as Lew Alcindor. Undoubtably, Abdul-Jabbar is correct in his sentiment, but when it came to losing, he wasn't a fanatic about it, because he didn't do it much. From winning 71 consecutive games at New York City's Power Memorial Academy and capturing two national championships, to winning 47 straight games at UCLA and three NCAA titles, to being the NBA player in the most winning games in history and capturing six NBA titles, he proved that his occasional high school and college losses had taught him well. As a 7'2" center, then named Alcindor, he teamed with Oscar Robertson to win a championship in his first pro season for the Milwaukee Bucks, and he gained Rookie of the Year honors. He took his trademark ambidextrous skyhook to the Los Angeles Lakers and helped the team take five more NBA titles and still holds the league record for career points with 38,387.

This 1969 Topps issue, known to collectors as "The Tallboys'" was the first nationally distributed hoops issue since the 1957 Topps, and as such it features many rookie cards, such as those of Willis Reed, John Havlicek, Wes Unseld, etc. The cards earned their Tallboys nickname measuring the standard 2-1/2" across, but standing tall at 4-11/16". Graded PSA NM 7.
