Description

1969 Topps Elvin Hayes #75 PSA Mint 9 - None Higher. Elvin Hayes was one of the best centers and power forwards in NBA history. Standing 6' 9" tall, The Big E made an immediate impact as he averaged a league-leading 28.4 points to go along with 17.1 rebounds per game as a rookie for the San Diego Rockets in 1969. Incredibly, he finished second in Rookie of the Year voting, losing out to Wes Unseld of the Baltimore Bullets. This 1969 Topps card shows Hayes leaning into the spotlight wearing his green-and-yellow San Diego warmups.

The 1969 Topps series was iconic in that it marked the company's full-fledged return to basketball cards for the first time since 1957. Each of the elongated cards (2-1/2"" by 4-11/16"") uses a colorful shot of the featured player set within an oval, outside frame. While the rookie card (#25) of Lew Alcindor certainly tops the checklist, the RC of Hayes (#75) is another sought-after commodity. A bruising rebounder and accurate scorer, Hayes, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1969 NBA Draft, played a total of 16 seasons in the NBA, won a title with the Washington Bullets in 1978, and retired following the 1983-84 season. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990. Graded PSA Mint 9. One of only 37 cards graded MINT with none rated higher.
