Description

1969 Topps Dave DeBusschere #85 PSA Mint 9. This 1969 Topps rookie card places collector attention on Dave DeBusschere, a two-sport who began playing professional sports for both the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Pistons. He played for the Pistons for seven seasons before being traded to the New York Knicks halfway though the 1968-69 campaign. It was a fortuitous move for both DeBusschere and the Knicks as New York would go on to win NBA titles in 1970 and 1973 with the man called Big D in both starting lineups.

Card #85 from the '69 Topps series shows DeBusschere sporting his new Knicks uniform via a colorful card front-presentation on the "tallboy" (2-1/2" x 4-11/16") release. For any knowledgeable Knicks fan or collector, DeBusschere's rookie cardboard would make for a fine addition. In its current outstanding condition, this example practically stands alone.

A former player-coach for the Pistons, DeBusschere was given the position at age 24 becoming the youngest coach ever in league history. He eventually reverted to player-only duties soon enough. After retiring from the league in 1974, he served as ABA Commissioner for one season (1975-76) and was instrumental in helping the merger between the NBA and ABA that year. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983. Graded PSA Mint 9. One of only 15 cards graded MINT with none rated higher.
