Description

1961 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain Rookie #8 PSA NM-MT 8. Everything about him was huge--his height, his talent, his libido. From his hundred-point game to the 20,000 notches on his bedpost, Chamberlain rewrote the record books in his image, holding seventy-two NBA superlatives to this day including most consecutive seasons leading the league in scoring (8), most points in a single season (4,029) and highest point average in a career (45.8). While it's easy to credit Chamberlain's seven-foot two-inch height for such matchless dominance, he was, in point of fact, one of the greatest natural athletes in American sports history, boasting a forty-eight inch vertical leap and such blazing footspeed that he once beat Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown in a sprint. His stamina was not confined to bedroom, with his 45.8 minutes/game career average another NBA-leading statistic.

The presented trading card finds The Stilt three seasons into his Hall of Fame career, but the "rookie" designation holds as the first basketball issue to appear during Chamberlain's career. He'd deliver to a small Hershey, Pennsylvania arena his signature accomplishment this season, scoring 100 points in a March 2, 1962 meeting with the New York Knicks. This contemporary card is a gorgeous representation, with bold colors, crisp registration, sharp corners and strong centering. Graded PSA NM-MT 8.
