1961 Fleer Jerry West Rookie #43 PSA NM-MT 8. Jerry West was a college basketball star at West Virginia. His efforts helped lead the team to the 1959 NCAA championship. He served as co-captain with Oscar Robertson on the 1960 U.S. Olympic gold medal team in Rome. In the NBA, West played in nine NBA Finals, winning in 1971, the same year the Lakers established a modern North American professional record of 33 straight wins. West became the head coach of the LA Lakers for three years, leading them to the playoffs every year and made it to the Western Conference Finals once. His next role was as general manager of the Lakers in 1982. Los Angeles won six championships while he was GM. His awards case includes two NBA Executive of the Year Awards.
