1957 Topps Walt Davis #49 SGC 96 Mint 9 - Pop 2 with None Higher! The 1957-58 Topps basketball series is in some respects a test issue as the popularity of basketball at the time would generate into sales of trading cards. There had not been a card release for the sport since the multi-color cards Bowman produced in 1949. The series did have some success but the available supply could hardly be called plentiful. SGC has graded over 1,800 1957 Topps basketball cards and only 15 have been graded 96 Mint 9. It is almost a fluke that card #49 of Walt Davis is recorded as having two graded at this level with none higher. We could imply the card was a resubmission but that is pure speculation. Regardless, one of the finest '57 Topps cards in existence.
