    Only four graded higher!

1957 Topps Bob Cousy Rookie #17 PSA NM-MT 8. This key figure in Beantown's dominance of the 1950's professional hardcourt was already well on his way to Springfield enshrinement when this card was hatched from a wax pack, but the offered high-grade relic nonetheless earns "rookie" status due to the fact that this is Cousy's first cardboard appearance. The 1957 Topps issue is positively packed with rookies, as this was the company's first foray into the sport, which had been all but ignored by the industry since Bowman released their first and last basketball set in 1948. A dozen years would pass before Topps would take another stab at the basketball market, so it's safe to say that original sales fell well short of projections.

Six and a half decades later, the supply/demand equation has been flipped upside-down, and collectors covet these rarities in a way Topps executives only dreamed back in '57. This particular example will draw particularly close attention for the esteem of its subject and the spectacular condition that places it behind only four of nearly one thousand submissions to date. The bright colors and silky gloss is what first catches our eye, followed by the sharp corners and utter absence of wax and gum stains. A gorgeous example for the grade.
