1948 Bowman George Mikan Rookie #69 SGC VG-EX 4. The 1948 Bowman set was a first for pro basketball. The second half of the set (#'s 37-72) came out later in the year and, assumed due to diminishing sales, are rarer than the first half. Thus, Mikan's rookie card #69 is a rare higher number and, combined with his fame, makes his card nothing less than one of the premier basketball cards of any era. This series is famous for their deep, rich colors and for portraits being less than perfectly centered. The card depicts a fierce, towering Mikan, glasses and all, driving to the hoop.
