Description

Population four, only one superior!

1948 Bowman George Mikan Rookie #69 PSA Mint 9. He's arguably the most influential player in basketball history, such a dominating force that the NBA was forced to rewrite the rule books to address the imbalance. The goaltending rule, the widening of the lanes and the shot clock were all implemented as a result of Mikan's smothering style.

At six-foot ten and 245 pounds, Mikan was the Father of the Big Men, renowned for his prolific shot blocking, rebounding, and an ambidextrous hook shot that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would later imitate to great effect. He holds a revered status as a pioneer of the early professional game. To sum up Mikan as a "player" is tantamount to describing Ty Cobb as a "batter" or Cy Young as a "pitcher."

It's no wonder that Mikan is the key card of the first great basketball set ever produced. Here we find him wearing a determined sneer and his Harry Potter spectacles as he drives the lane early in his Hall of Fame career.

Condition is truly spectacular for a rarity of such advanced vintage, outperformed on the PSA rating scale by only a single example in well over 400 submissions. Graded PSA Mint 9.
