Description
2010 Panini Elite Black Box Kobe Bryant & Jerry West (Passing the Torch Signatures) #1 BGS NM 7, Auto 9 - #'d 1/10 - Only One Higher! Starting in 1961 and lasting a total of 14 seasons Jerry West was the leader of the Los Angeles Lakers, even in the midst of fellow legends from Elgin Baylor to Gail Goodrich to Wilt Chamberlain. It was West who commanded a leadership role on the court, whose penchant for last-second heroics earned him the nickname "Mr. Clutch." Fast forward 20+ years and the Lakers found their next leader who wanted to do all those same roles in Kobe Bryant. Los Angeles made a draft day trade to bring in Kobe and 20 years later all in L.A. and fellow Laker great Magic Johnson would proclaim, "the greatest who's ever worn the purple and gold." Jumping straight from high school to the NBA, Bryant would show immediately why he was different than any other Laker in history. The intensity and relentless work ethic and finish can quickly draw the comparisons with Jerry West. While both West and Bryant showed leadership, drive and heroics they also are some of the most decorated players in the history of the NBA. West has the honor of being named the only NBA Finals MVP representing a losing team and Kobe was a 2x NBA Finals MVP. Kobe has the 2nd most All-Star Game selections with 18, while West named one every year he played (14). West was the 1970 NBA Scoring Champion, while Bryant lead the league in scoring twice. Both have had their numbers retired by the Lakers, including Kobe have both 8 and 24 retired. And finally Kobe being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, being adding to the team that West has been apart of for 35th and 50th Anniversary's, as well.
Offered is a truly breathtaking dual NBA Logoman and autograph card from the high-end 2010-11 Panini Elite Black Box. On one side, Jerry West is pictured in his road purple Lakers uniform with a blue marker autograph and the NBA logo patch which he was the basis for. On the reverse is The Black Mamba, in his home yellow jersey, blue marker signature and his own accompanying NBA logo patch. This fantastic card combines the two greatest Los Angeles Lakers with one of the hobbies most sought after card designs. This card is the only one as NM with only one grading higher! Graded BGS NM 7 with subgrades: Centering 9.5, Corners 6.5, Edges 8, Surface 8.5 with a Beckett Auto 9. Limited edition - #1/10!
