Description

2009 Exquisite Collection (Limited Logos) LeBron James #LLJ BGS NM+ 7.5, Beckett Auto 10 - #'d 2/16. The "Exquisite Collection" has clearly earned its self-congratulatory nomenclature--in fact, the second-highest price ever paid for a basketball card was a rookie model for King James, which sold privately in 2021 for $5.2 million. While this specimen does not share that debut season vintage, the fundamental building blocks of the pair remain the same--low population rarity, a game used jersey swatch and an on-card autograph from the subject.

We should remind readers that LeBron claimed his second of four career NBA Most Valuable Player Awards this year en route to four out of five between the 2008-09 and 2012-13 seasons, so this is a card that found the NBA Scoring King at the peak of his legendary skills. This was also the last year of James' first term of service to the Cleveland Cavaliers before taking his talents to South Beach, and you can count us among the many NBA fans who think that LeBron material related to his home state team is the most special.

Note the limited edition number stamped in gold at upper right quadrant of obverse, the number "2" matching his standing MVP tally at the close of this season. While nobody has a hobby crystal ball, the approach of James' retirement is likely to add fuel to a market that has been hot since he was a high schooler, so savvy collectors take note. Graded BGS NM+ 7.5 with subgrades: Centering 9, Corners 8, Edges 8, Surface 7. The signature has been graded Beckett Auto 10.
