Description
2006 Fleer Buyback Michael Jordan (1986 Fleer-Autograph) #57 PSA Authentic, Auto 10! "CONGRATULATIONS!" booms the banner headline of the included COA. "You have received a trading card that was originally released unsigned in a previous product and now includes a personal autograph from Michael Jordan. The signature was signed in the presence of a company representative or sent from, and certified as to its authenticity by, Michael Jordan, and the card is now being re-released for your collecting pleasure."Any collector with the interest in competing for a Jordan item of this rarity and value is surely aware of this fact, but for any novices intrigued by this lot, we'll take a moment to discuss the enormous rarity of Michael Jordan autographs relative to virtually every other famous person still alive on the planet today. The tsunami of dollars flooding the GOAT's bank account from his Nike empire provides scant incentive for Jordan to sell his autographs, and, frankly, he's never been a generous signer, even from his earliest days.
We aren't sure how he was coaxed into participating in this Fleer promotion, and we'd suspect that the fee paid for the few minutes it took him to autograph twenty-three examples of his rookie card in 2006 would boggle the mind. But, nearly twenty years after that signing session, a period during which the Jordan Fleer rookie has become one of the most famous collectibles on the planet, whatever that sum might have been has been rendered reasonable by context.
The card itself is a spectacular specimen--certainly Fleer carefully selected Jordan rookie cards to ensure that those contained within this limited edition of just short of two dozen would be high-grade examples--but only the autograph here is assigned a number grade, and it's the only grade that makes sense for that perfect John Hancock.
The result is a card both considerable rarer and more impressive than the highly coveted Gem Mint 10 unsigned examples that number over 300. This is number 10 of a limited edition of 23, the figure matching the autograph grade for a fun touch of friendly numerology. Graded PSA Authentic, Auto 10.
