    Description

    Highest graded autographed example!

1984-85 Star Co. Michael Jordan Rookie #101 BGS Mint 9, BAS Auto 10. The 1986 Fleer Jordan that serves as the most recognizable cardboard of the past half century is widely and properly filed under the header of "rookie," but the offered relic predates that hobby essential, tracking back to the first days of His Airness on an NBA court. There are no professional statistics to be found on the back of this coveted rarity--only Tarheels tallies--and nothing but immortality ahead.

And this isn't just the older sibling of the Jordan rookie family, but a far rarer one to boot. These cards were originally distributed in sealed team bags with the Jordan on top, in a production run believed to have numbered below 5,000. Several hundred have been submitted for assessment by Beckett, and only three have ever soared higher--but none of those bear the signature of its subject.

But these calculations ignore a variant that places this early cardboard virtually alone, a worthy challenger for the distinction of the most desirable Michael Jordan trading card that exists. A blue sharpie signature carefully applied to the surface of the card has garnered a flawless assessment from the strict graders at Beckett, that "10 Autograph" designation transforming the relic from an elite rarity into an even more precious collecting grail. With high-grade modern autograph cards climbing into seven-figure territory in recent days, one can only speculate at the investment potential of this specimen. Encapsulated by BGS, Mint 9, BAS Auto 10.
