No matter the order of first names, the on-court battles of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson grew into one of the NBA's all-time greatest rivalries. Starting with the 1979 NCAA Championship Game and continuing with three head-to-head showdowns in the NBA Finals, their hotly contested games grew into an eventual friendship between the two Hall of Famers. By winning three NBA MVP awards apiece during the '80s, these two titans became the measuring sticks for all future players.
