More Information: This auction features sixteen lots of the rarest basketball cards ever produced. Ask one hundred basketball card collectors, "What are the rarest basketball cards?" Almost all would get the answer wrong. The rarest cards are from 1972 produced by the NPBA and a company based in Long Beach, California called "Comspec." Who is Comspec is uncertain and to the best of our research we have been unable to find out

It seems very likely these cards are all prototypes for a promotion never taken to public circulation. The cards they produced were printed in thin, fragile paper featuring the portraits of 36 different NBA players on simple, red, blue, green, yellow, pink or orange backgrounds. The lower portion of each unnumbered card lists the players’ name, team and position. The cards measure 2-1/4" by 3-1/2." The backs have brief bio and career stats of the featured player. Identification is found along the bottom of each card. Ad copy reads, "A Product of Comspec, Inc." with an address on Orange Avenue in Long Beach, California plus a copyright 1973 NPBA.
