1986 Fleer Basketball PSA Gem Mint 10 Near Set (131/132). The 1980s saw a welcomed resurgence of interest in sports card collecting. However, this trend led to an overwhelming flood of cards from both established manufacturers and new entrants, resulting in a supply that ultimately outpaced demand. Today, unopened sets from Donruss, Topps, and Upper Deck still languish in their original shrink-wrapped boxes, often selling for less than their decades-old price tags. But for basketball enthusiasts, one remarkable exception remains: the landmark 1986 Fleer basketball set of 132 cards. With the Star Company being the only company distributing NBA basketball cards at the time, 1986 marked the year that Fleer entered the NBA trading card milieu and boy, did they hit the jackpot with this inaugural release.The rookie class alone stands second to none with the likes of Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan (THOUGH NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS OFFERING), Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, and Hakeem Olajuwon amongst the amazing list of rookies. Beyond the extraordinary rookie class this set features an elite checklist packed with legends of the era, a veritable who's who of Hall of Famers including Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, both of whom are widely credited with saving the NBA and launching it towards the worldwide phenomenon it has become today. Joining them are stars and HoFers such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, George Gervin, Bernard King, Kevin McHale, Sidney Moncrief, and the list goes on and on.
Offered is one of the finest collections of the 1986 Fleer basketball release. This near set of 131 cards is only missing #57 (Jordan) for completion.
