Description

1970/71 Topps Basketball Counter Display Box With 24 Unopened 10-Cent Packs. Basketball cards were in their second year renaissance when this 1st Series Topps counter display box saw store shelves presenting consumers with 24 "tall boy" sized wax packs of cards, an insert poster and a stick of gum, all for only the price of a dime. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor), Bill Bradley plus others adorn the top panel of this 5" x 8" x 2-1/2" box that still houses all 24 packs as it did over 40 years ago. Seeing not one but an entire box of unopened packs is nothing short of impressive. The 1st Series covers card #'s 1-110, so one can only guess how many cards there may be of Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Bradley, Oscar Robertson, John Havlicek, Elvin Hayes, Lew Alcindor, plus any number of League Leader and All-Star cards. Whereas the 2nd series box is desirable because of the Pete Maravich rookie and several other Hall of Fame players in it, the 1st series box has a better collectible value for the following reasons. The 2nd series consists of 65 cards and were made in much more quantity because of the Maravich rookie. The first series consisted of 110 cards of which 22 of them were short prints. A full size uncut sheet had 99 cards on it, so you essentially got 1 and 1/2 sets of the second series on one sheet. The short prints are essentially 5 times rarer than a 1st series regular card due to the positioning of the shorts prints versus the total cards that came on an uncut sheet. The twenty-four wax packs present at the EX/MT to NM/MT level. The box presents at the VG-EX level with wear around edges and spine but no major damage or spine splitting.

NOTE: We cannot guarantee the opinion of a third party grading service. The packs have been inspected and to the best of our expertise we find them to be untampered with and original.
