    Description

Signed 1909-11 Sweet Caporal T206 Fred Snodgrass (Catching) BGS Authentic Auto. Like his teammate Fred Merkle, Fred Snodgrass is most remembered for committing an error. Merkel's "boner" was said to have cost the Giants the 1908 pennant, while Snodgrass's blunder was blamed for New York's 1912 World Series loss. Even in death sixty-two year's later, "Snow" could not escape that one fatal miscue. The headline of his New York Times obit read "Fred Snodgrass, 86, Dead; Ball Player Muffed 1912 Fly."

The offered T206 Fred Snodgrass "catching" via an amazing illustration features a vertical black fountain pen signature as well as a "Giants" inscription. The back displays "Sweet Caporal...350 Subjects" advertising with a "Factory No. 30" caption. This lot was consigned by the estate of a collector who had amassed a collection of thousands of autographed trading cards, photographs and ephemera obtained in the 50's and 60's. Graded BGS Authentic Auto.
