Circa 1932 Babe Ruth "Play Ball" Original Three-Sheet Poster--Only Known Example! How does one measure supremacy? For many years, when it came to Babe Ruth, the answer was as simple as an examination of his stat line. It's been said that records are made to be broken, but Ruth positively shattered them, dismissing the standards of incremental advancement for a paradigm shift that serves as the clearest evidence of the sport's transition from Dead Ball Era to Live. Some records have fallen, occasionally with help from medical science, but any argument that Ruth was not the most dominant athlete in sports history is doomed to burial beneath a mountain of evidence to the contrary.

Here we present another subject of indisputable dominion, one of only three known surviving movie posters heralding the early 1930's series of short films starring the sport's premier figure, and the only example appearing in the towering three-sheet format (81x27").

Our catalog imagery should convey that the graphics are absolutely world class here, but it is only when standing face to face with the massive relic that its full aesthetic power can be experienced. Standing an inch taller than LeBron James, the gargantuan poster is a wall-filling masterpiece of Depression-era artistry, destined to become the single most eye-catching component of even the most spectacular of private collections.

We must note that the poster came to us partially die-cut to create a "standee" of sorts, requiring professional restoration to fill in the background of the upper third, including Ruth's head and bat. This restoration work is so masterfully executed, however, that only those actively searching for its signs will notice them.

There is no hyperbole in the statement that this gigantic linen-mounted poster stands as the most significant Babe Ruth display piece ever to appear on the hobby's auction block. In both rarity and size, there are, quite literally, no equals.
