Circa 1911 Christy Mathewson Original Photograph by Paul Thompson, PSA/DNA Type 1. One of the most esteemed sports photographers of the day, the great Paul Thompson, finds the iconic Matty during his prime with the New York Giants. We are able to date the 5x7" photo to 1911 because it was the only season the Giants donned midnight navy jerseys with the interlocking "NY" on their sleeve ends during Mathewson's playing career.Thompson's portraits rank with the most coveted in this vibrant collecting subgenre. A very faint photographer stamp is barely visible on the reverse. Henry Yee confirms this is a Thompson photograph as it is listed on the label. "Mathewson NY Nat" is written in pencil on the reverse. Light wear. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.
