DescriptionCirca 1910 Baseball Notebooks Collection (4). From the John Esch collection. Baseball was a popular subject for school notebooks around the turn of the last century. Luckily, there were many stars and great teams around back then to put on notebook covers. Offered is a lot of four notebooks that were published around 1910, the height of the Deadball Era.
Includes: 1) "Exciting Moments: Safe on Second." The cover features an unknown St. Louis Browns baserunner. It contains all of its original notebook paper with minimal writing. Light pencil writing on the cover and otherwise presents excellent. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"; 2) "Crack Batteries" (which meant "outstanding pitcher/catcher teammates" back in 1910). It depicts Hall of Famer Chief Bender and his catcher, Ira Thomas. Several sheets of notebook paper are still present, and they contain the homework of one Chester Wilford, whose name is emblazoned on the front cover. The spine does exhibit some damage, although it is still intact. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"; 3) "Favorites of the Diamond," the third notebook features a nice diamond-shaped portrait of Christy Mathewson. It does exhibit some interior paper damage to one of the corners and the spine. Corner missing to cover. It does maintain its original contents. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"; and 4) The fourth notebook is a wonderful piece entitled "Champions 1910 Chicago Base Ball Club National League," and it features an attractive composite photograph of the 1910 Cubs, including Hall of Famers Tinker, Evers, Chance, and Brown. The cover has become detached but all of the booklets paper is still present, and it exhibits some minor creasing. Measure approximately 7"x 9".
