    Description

C.1887 Curtis Studio Fred Valdois SGC Fair 1.5 - Possibly Unique. Material connect to the Texas League from the 19th century is extremely rare. The offered cabinet card is quite possibly the only surviving example. Offered is a Curtis Studio cabinet photo featuring Fred Valdois of the San Antonio Missionaries who is thankfully identified below his crisp and remarkable portrait. Curtis was based on Houston Street in San Antonio. Despite the date SGC assigned, we do know there was a 3rd baseman named Fred Valdois who played for the Missionaries for just one season in 1897. The photo is immaculate save for one slight blemish left of his ear. The card mount shows a vertical wrinkle seen on the reverse and his name in ink on the front. Graded SGC Fair 1.5. That assessment will be seen by most as harsh. In any condition this is an extremely rare relic and quite possibly the only example in existence.
