    2019 Bowman Chrome Prospects Noelvi Marte (Autograph - Superrefractors) #CPA - NMA BGS Gem Mint 9.5, Auto 10 - #'d 1/1. Who doesn't want to get in on the ground floor of a skyscraper that's rapidly going up? You'll see the terrific numbers on 19-year-old shortstop Noelvi Marte, but let's start off the inside report on the Seattle Mariners prospect by more traditional means - sound.

    "It's as old school as it can possibly be when I say this," said Seattle Mariners' farm director Andy McKay in an article by Josh Norris in Baseball America, "but the sound that the ball made coming off of his bat was really different than anybody else." Marte, a native of the Dominican Republic, signed for 1.55 million in 2018, and debuted with the Mariners' in 2019 as a 17-year-old in the rookie level Dominican Summer League. That sound that the ball made coming off his bat proved prophetic as he tore up the DSL, hitting .309 with nine home runs and 54 RBI in only 65 games. He had other outstanding numbers, with a .371 OBP, .511 SLG, and a .883 OPS. Marte also exhibited an excellent slugging and speed combination as he stole 17 bases, and according to some experts, he has 70 speed on the scouting scale.

    His ultimate position may not be shortstop, but he has the arm and athleticism to handle any infield or outfield spot. The Mariners showed their confidence in him when he was part of their expanded 60-man roster during the COVID-19 impacted 2020 season.
