1992-93 Derek Jeter Complete Rookie Card Collection PSA Gem Mint 10 (42 cards) - Plus An Uncut Sheet and Little Sun Set - #2/3000) - Netwings Nest Collection. CORRECTIONS: There are not two 1993 Topps #98 Gold cards. One is the standard Topps variety. The Classic Collectors Club C3 #4 card is from 1993 (not 1992) and a typo was fixed.

For most lovers of baseball history, the affection is rooted in the belief that there was a purity to the early game that has been since been corrupted. We view the sport's childhood much like our own--uncomplicated, magical in its innocence, free of the guile and the compromise that tends to accompany progress. There were problems in the old days--serious ones solved only by brave men like Judge Landis and Jackie Robinson in their very different times--but we didn't yearn so desperately to kill our idols, and those old idols never seemed quite so ready to break our hearts either.

For one thing, they were always there, from kindergarten through college graduation sometimes, through births and deaths, unbroken chains of years until they were as familiar as family. The weight of American principle that Curt Flood took to the fight for free agency left little doubt but that his cause was just, but then we fans had only ever seen the good in our team "belonging" to us. Just because Flood was right didn't stop it from hurting. The game was forever changed. And so our baseball families would gradually be replaced by strangers, who would soon vanish themselves if they got much better, or much worse. The days of Teddy Ballgame were over. No more Stan the Mans. No more Micks.

So, as The Captain prepares to enjoy his pandemic-delayed induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, we might finally be closing the book upon that noble baseball tradition that helped us learn to love the game in the first place. Derek Jeter may well prove to be the last top-ten finisher in any pedigree Major League statistic to wear a single uniform to record each digit in the tally.

This is no small thing, particularly when viewed through the lens of the sports collectibles marketplace. Add the five World Championships, the Gold Gloves, the Silver Sluggers, the Flip, the Dive. Even add, if you'd like, a bedpost notched both heavily and unapologetically, as Manhattan's most eligible playboy. The result is the sort of athlete nearly driven to extinction by modernity, the kind that will stand the test of time like the earliest residents of Cooperstown he'll join in a few months.

The assignment of one of two single-digit jerseys still in circulation upon Jeter's pinstriped debut was a sturdy clue to the hopes pinned upon the young shortstop by Yankee brass, and an American League Rookie of the Year performance in 1996 was the payday on that gamble. A quarter of a century later, he's the most beloved living member of the sport's premier franchise.

The offered lot serves as the most comprehensive assembly of PSA Gem Mint 10 Derek Jeter rookie cards ever presented at auction, an investment opportunity unlike any we've had the privilege to present. Our consignor was determined to sell this flawless collection as a single lot, but those with calculators in hand will surely be tallying up the figures, and referencing the market trends with an eye to the future.

No offering of Jeter rookie cards would be complete without the crown jewel and this unparalleled collection doesn't disappoint. One of the most popular cards in the hobby, the 1993 SP Derek Jeter #279, can also be one of the trickiest. The foil coating which makes the card so unique, also makes it exceedingly damage-prone. Graded PSA Gem Mint 10. Out of over 18,000 submitted to PSA, just twenty-one have been assessed at the Gem Mint level. Based on its enduring popularity and the rarity of high-grade examples relative to the total population, it may very well be the next T206 Wagner or 1952 Mantle.

Other gems included are a Front Row Draft Picks uncut sheet; that includes Jeter's future teammate Jason Giambi; plus a pack of 1992 Little Sun High School Baseball Prospects. The following four cards are autographed: 1992 Little Sun (PSA Gem Mint 10, PSA/DNA Authentic); 1992 Front Row Draft Picks (PSA/DNA Authentic); 1992 Classic 4 Sport #231 (PSA Gem Mint 10; PSA/DNA Authentic (pop two!)); 1993 Classic Best Auto (PSA Gem Mint 10, PSA/DNA Authentic).

    Plus an incredible selection of Derek Jeter rookies, all graded PSA Gem Mint 10: 37 cards: 1992 Little Sun #2; 1992 UD Minor League #5; 1992 Classic Draft Picks #6; 1992 Classic Draft Picks Foil Bonus #BC6; 1992 Classic Best - Blue Bonus #BC22; 1992 Front Row Draft Picks #55; 1992 Front Row Draft Picks - Promo Card; 1992 Front Row Draft Picks - Silver #55 (pop twelve); 1992 Front Row Draft Picks - Gold #55 (pop fourteen); 1992 Fleer Excel #210; 1992 Classic 4 Sport #231; 1992 Classic 4 Sport - Gold #231; 1992 Classic Best #402; 1992 Procards - Gulf Coast Yankees #3797; 1993 Classic Best - Greensboro Hornets #1; 1993 Classic Best - Promo #PR1; 1993 Front Row - Jeter Gold Collection #2; 1993 Classic Images - Sudden Impact #SI3 (pop thirteen); 1993 Classic Collectors Club C3 #4; 1993 Fleer Excel - League Leaders #10; 1993 Procards All-Stars - South Atlantic League #21; 1993 Classic Best #91; 1993 Topps #98; 1993 Topps Gold #98; 1993 Topps Micro #98; 1993 Topps - FL Marlins Inaugural #98; 1993 Topps Derek Jeter - Colorado Rockies Inaugural; 1993 Fleer Excel #106; 1993 Classic Best Gold - Greensboro Hornets #115; 1993 Stadium Club - Murphy #117; 1993 Select #360; 1993 Pinnacle #457; 1993 Upper Deck #449; 1993 Upper Deck - Gold Hologram #449; 1993 Score #489; 1993 Bowman #511; 1993 Fleer Procards - Greensboro Hornets #893.
