Donated to charity auction through Bulls teammate Will Perdue

1988 Michael Jordan Game Worn & Signed Air Jordan III Sneakers. The third edition of the world's most celebrated sneaker brand, was the first designed by Tinker Hatfield, the man responsible for every subsequent version until XV, and several more beyond that. The format remains one of the most beloved from the iconic Air Jordan series born in 1984. Notable advancements in this chapter three, include the first visible Air units, the first appearance of the iconic "Jumpman," and the classic elephant hide print.

But this particular pair offers something that no retail format can--the embedded sweat of the man himself. These shoes made their way to "The Charlie Mac Celebrity Sports Auction" in August 1989 through Will Perdue. "Charlie Mac" was the on-air persona of Charlie McAlexander, sports director for Tennessee radio station WLAC-AM and voice of the Vanderbilt Commodores. His namesake auction was held in support of the American Cancer Society.

Perdue, of course, was a key figure in the Bulls' first three-peat before his time in Chicago ended in a trade for Dennis Rodman. The most serious Bulls historians will recall that Perdue played his college ball at Vanderbilt, hence the connection to Charlie Mac's charity event.

The shoes exhibit solid game wear and size "13" tags at each interior ankle with a "Promo" designator assuring they could have only belonged to one man. The rubber soles have fallen victim to the degradation that plagues Air Jordans of this era, but the leather uppers still look lovely, particularly when viewed from the outer sides, where a bold black sharpie signature appears on each. Letter of provenance of charity auction winner. LOA from Heritage Auctions. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
