1972 Roberto Clemente Game Ready Bat Signed by Pittsburgh Pirates Team. The presence of an autograph from manager Bill Virdon, who took the helm of the Pirates ship in 1972, leads us strongly to the assumption that this unused lumber dates to the second of its two-season production run (1971-72), thus the last of Roberto Clemente's remarkable Hall of Fame career and life. The tragic 3,000 Hit Club member was famous for his massive, knobless bats, and this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby U1 is positively Ruthian in dimensions, measuring thirty-six and a half inches (36.5") in length and tipping the scales at a hefty thirty-seven and a half ounces (37.5 oz.).

Though this particular specimen never saw action in the skilled hands of its master, its role as a team signed relic is played to utter perfection, with over twenty black marker signatures averaging a legitimate 9+/10. Clemente's unmistakable autograph is counted among them, as well as fellow Cooperstown immortals Willie Stargell and Bill Mazeroski. Other notables include Sanguillen, Ellis, Oliver, Hebner, Robertson, Alley, Cash and more. A vintage number "21" in Clemente's distinctive hand suggests this was likely pulled from the bat rack when the season ended with a loss to the Cincinnati Reds in the 1972 NLCS, which would make this one of the last autographs Clemente ever signed. A monumentally important commemorative of one of sports' greatest men. LOA from PSA/DNA, Authentic (bat). Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
