Description

1970 Topps Pete Maravich Rookie #123 PSA Mint 9 - Only Two Higher. One of the most beloved figures in post-war basketball history made his rookie card debut in Topps' 1970 "Tall Boys" series. Pete Maravich was born in 1947 in a small Pennsylvania steel town. His domineering basketball coach father trained him to become a standout at LSU and a first round NBA draft pick. When a young child, he was so small he could only shoot the ball with a great heave from his hip, like a six-shooter. They called him "Pistol." His career lasted 10 seasons and ended due to knee injuries. His time on the bench that last season was played by a future HoFer - Adrian Dantley. Offered is a a wonderful high-grade specimen featuring a still baby-faced "Pistol Pete" with Atlanta. Graded PSA Mint 9. This example finds itself in the top three percent of all PSA submissions with only two grading higher.
