Description

1969 Ted Williams Game Worn & Signed Washington Senators Jersey. His 1939 Boston Red Sox rookie jersey bore the sleeve patch of the Baseball Centennial, and thirty years later he sported another celebrating the centennial of Major League Baseball as manager of the long-suffering Washington Senators. He'd hold the reins of the squad for four seasons--three in DC and the last for the newly-relocated Texas Rangers--and this garment represents his managerial "rookie."

Teddy Ballgame would improve upon the 1968 season by twenty wins during that auspicious debut at the helm, supplying the nation's capital with its only winning season (86-76) between the franchise's 1961 founding and 1974. He'd earn "Manager of the Year" honors for this 1969 campaign, but he'd find himself increasingly impatient with his players as the months and years progressed, leaving the Majors for good after a 100-loss season in 1972.

The home white jersey presents in original and unaltered condition, with "Senators" applied in red-on-navy tackle twill script on chest and the iconic number "9" on verso. Left sleeve bears aforementioned original MLB Centennial patch. Interior collar holds "Wilson" label with blank size box--typical for larger sizes of this period. It measures to a "48." Lower left front tail holds embroidered "1969" identifier. Interior collar bears 9/10 blue sharpie signature from Williams that bleeds through to back slightly. Appropriate managerial game wear evident. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph).
