1968 Topps 3-D Baseball Uncut Sheet of 9. Well-established as one of the true rarities of the modern card era, the 1968 Topps 3-D test issue is among the most sought after and valuable sets from any decade. These attractive cards are extremely rare, produced in miniscule numbers as a test issue that was only distributed to a select few candy stores within walking distance to the Topps Company headquarters. Originally owned by an ex-employee of the Texas based company Xograph, which was contracted by Topps for the production of these high-tech cards, this uncut sheet and the one that follows are believed to be the only known examples to the hobby. Xograph would later go on to produce the popular Kellogg's 3-D sets. It is widely believed that all the discovered cards from this set have come directly from someone who either worked for Topps or Xograph. The Rick Monday and John O'Donoghue proof cards present on this sheet were only recently discovered and brought $30,000+ apiece at auction in June of 2006. Also included on this sheet are the ultra-scarce Boog Powell, Mel Stottlemyre, Jim Longborg, Rusty Staub, Curt Flood, Jim Maloney and Ron Fairly. This could very well be a one-time offering, destined to never repeat itself. The uncut sheet itself is in near pristine condition, with only one visible defect - two 1/2" marks, probably incurred at time of finishing, at the bottom left-hand corner of the Jim Maloney card which sits at bottom left corner of the sheet. This does very little to diminish the overall appeal of this truly collectible item, sure to find its place alongside the true gems of the contemporary sportscard market.
