    Description

1967 Game Worn Kansas City A's Jersey, Pants, Stirrup Socks & Undershirts Lot of 5 from Luke Appling's Estate. 1. Home white flannel vest sports gold and green braided trim around the collar and arm openings with "52 A" across the chest and "52" on the verso, all sewn-on in satiny green on gold tackle twill. Tags in the tail include "Tim McAuliffe Inc," "'67," and "48." After the 1967 season, the original numbers were removed, "52" was added, and the jersey was worn Gene Tenace, a non-roster invitee, during Spring Training 1968 where Luke Appling was a special instructor. Tenace went on to become a vital component of the 1970's A's dynasty, which won five consecutive division titles and three consecutive World Series Championships. He was also an All-Star and the MVP of the 1972 World Series.

    2. Matching pants features gold and green braided trim down the legs with "Tim McAuliffe," "'67," "39," and "25" tags in the waist.

    3. A pair of stretchy green stirrup socks with gold and white stripes.

    4. Long-sleeve white wool undershirt with gold sleeves and "Tim McAuliffe" label.

    5. Short-sleeve green wool half-undershirt with "Wilson" label.

Terrific ensemble dates from the A's last year in Kansas City before Charlie O took the ballclub westward to Oakland. Obtained from the family of Hall of Famer Luke Appling who coached (1964-67) and managed (1967) the A's. Letter of provenance from Tammy Dribble McLaughlin (Luke Appling's granddaughter). LOA from Heritage Auctions.
