It ain't over 'til it's over (and now it's over)

1965 Yogi Berra Final Career Hit Game Used & Signed Bat with Berra Letter, PSA/DNA GU 10. Though the weirdly wise Hall of Famer would continue his peerless service to our national pastime for decades to come, claiming even more championship rings as manager and coach to join his two fistfuls earned as a player, Berra realized at age forty that "the future ain't what it used to be," and hung up his bat for good. He'd make just four appearances for the 1965 Mets before surrendering to Father Time, recording the final two base hits of his career on May 4th during a Phillies visit to Shea Stadium. The presented bat is the one that notched number 2,150, a lead-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning off rookie right-hander Gary Wagner that would prove to be the last of Berra's fabled career.

He'd placed the final two orders for his signature model Hillerich & Bradsby B211 in early February and late April of that year, each matching the thirty-five inch (35"), thirty-three ounce (33.7 oz.) specs of the listed specimen. The bat exhibits outstanding game use with plentiful ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat divots, and heavy pine tar on the cracked and repaired handle. Number "8" appears in vintage marker on the knob, and a bold blue sharpie signature adorns the barrel.

A pair of letters of provenance establish the relic's elite significance, most importantly one from the three-time American League MVP himself, who writes, "This is the bat I used on May 4th, 1965 to record my last Major League hit against the Philadelphia Phillies. Number: 2,150 of my career." The second details the presentation of the bat to the man who signed the letter, reporting that he received it from Mets relief pitcher Larry Bearnarth in May of 1965. Bearnarth confirmed that it was the bat Berra used to record his final hit, and that Berra had indicated he could have it. It's a piece of enormous historical significance, marking the closing chapter of the most championship-laden playing career in Major League history. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 10. Letter of provenance from Yogi Berra. Letter of provenance from recipient. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (bat). Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (letter of provenance).
