Description

1957 Stan Musial Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. "We Polish have to stick together," Musial told young Frank Malyszko at a February 1957 Boy Scouts banquet honoring the Cardinals slugger in February 1957. He invited the boy to come visit the dugout at Sportsman's Park that summer, and that he would give the boy a bat as a souvenir. This charming story is faithfully recounted in the included letter of provenance from Malyszko, along with a copy of a photo of the pair posing at the railing of the St. Louis ballpark during batting practice, the boy gripping this bat in his left hand. It's an Adirondack 57B, uncracked and exhibiting light use, as Musial instructed the boy to pick a nicer one when he was initially drawn to a more battered model. Still a few ball marks are clearly visible, as is the red streaking from the Sportsman's Park bat rack. Length is 34.5", weight thirty-one ounces. A marvelous relic with the kind of provenance of which collectors dream, dating to the season of Musial's seventh and final batting championship (.351). Blue sharpie signature on barrel, acquired many years later, is 8/10. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph). Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).
