1956 Willard Mullin Original Artwork--Brooklyn Bum. This editorial artist for The Sporting News is best remembered for his invention of the Brooklyn Bum, and is all but universally considered to be the most significant sports cartoonist in American history. You can spot the furry fella that remains Mullin's primary association at upper left here, while a shouting Giant at lower right laments the loss of the glory of the 1951 pennant-winning season. The cartoon notes that the home run hero Bobby Thomson is now a Brave, and former Giants ace Sal Maglie, who led the National League with twenty-three victories in 1951, a (gasp!) Dodger. Dimensions 16x21". Typical handling and storage wear.
