    1953 Topps Mickey Mantle #82 SGC VG/EX 4. In 1953, he was only 21-years-old, on his way towards super-stardom. In his first full year as the Yankee center fielder in 1952, Mantle hit .311, with 23 homers and 87 RBI. In 1953, he hit .295, with 21 homers and 92 RBI. In 1953 Topps was in a war with Bowman for baseball card supremacy, and Topps engaged artist Gerry Dvorak to do oil paintings of the players. Later, Dvorak worked at Paramount Studios where his art work appeared in many Hanna-Barbera animations.
