Description

1952 Topps Willie Mays #261 PSA EX-MT+ 6.5. "Blessed with tremendous natural ability, Willie can do almost everything just a little better than the next fellow." This quote was written about nineteen-year old Willie Mays. After a brief stop in the minors, Mays quickly earned a one-way ticket to the Big Apple, batting .477 in thirty-five games and dazzling spectators with his range and arm in the outfield. By late May, he was a Big Leaguer. As a pro, "The Say Hey Kid" would earn his immortality in the black and orange of the New York and San Francisco Giants. From his debut season his talents impressed, as he would claim the 1951 National League Rookie of the Year Award and participate in one of baseball's most famous games (Bobby Thomson's Called Shot contest), going on to meet fellow rookie Mickey Mantle in the 1951 Fall Classic. Along with Mantle, Willie Mays' rookie deserves credit for this set's elite ranking within lists of collectors' most favored issues. Graded PSA EX-MT+ 6.5. Presented is a solid, high-end example of Mays' first Topps card from 1952. Bold colors, tight registration and fresh gloss provide an aesthetic appeal of a superior level.
